Join NYDLC as we travel to Albany for Pro-Voter Advocacy Day!

Visit the Capitol and hone your advocacy skills in meetings with influential policymakers and legislative staff. Stand up for voting rights by educating our representatives about NYDLC's pro-voter priorities and persuading them to support and help enact key reforms to modernize the way we register to vote, how we participate in elections, how ballots are counted, and more.

For years, NYDLC and good government groups have decried New York's outdated election law. During 2016, we all witnessed the consequences of failing to modernize our registration and administration system, which resulted in the victimization of tens of thousands of perfectly eligible New York voters. Voting should be a convenient and accessible process and voters should be encouraged to participate in our democracy by having fair access to the ballot, with effective safeguards to protect fundamental civil rights.

We are proud that so many prominent N.Y. Democrats have called for pro-voter election reforms in 2017. Now that our issues have their attention, we need to have their backs, and we must keep them focused on strengthening voting rights by modernizing voter registration and election administration processes.

Our 2017 agenda is still being finalized, but in the past NYDLC has advocated for policies to modernize how we register to vote (eg: automatic registration, same-day registration, online registration, pre-registration for the next generation of voters); how we cast ballots (eg: early voting (a goal NYDLC has pursued for several years), universal mail-voting options, ballot-on-demand vote centers, etc.); a system of registration portability so eligible voters stay registered when they move, simplified ballot design, voter intimidation/suppression safeguards and more.

If adopted, these policies would enhance our democracy by making our electoral process fairer, more inclusive, and more accessible to millions of eligible New Yorkers. But these are big priorities, and we can't achieve them without your relentless dedication, active participation, and continued support. RSVP below to join us on our May 23rd Pro-Voter Albany Advocacy Day trip and be the change!
