4/19: Election Integrity & Technology Meeting--RSVP below!
Please join NYDLC on Wednesday, April 19th at 6:30 PM for the first meeting of our new Subcommittee on Election Integrity & Technology. We hope you will get involved at the ground level and help build out this important new effort.
Please RSVP below. Those unable to attend in person may dial in. Credentials will be emailed to all RSVPs.
NYDLC's new Subcommittee was created in response to demand by our members to address the troubling intelligence and media reports of attempts by foreign interests and state actors to undermine the legitimacy of US elections via intrusions/hacking of Boards of Elections, and the potential that the integrity of voting machines and voter data could be compromised. The 2016 election and its aftermath also highlighted the absence of a uniform set of broadly accepted national standards and best practices for the casting, securing, counting, and auditing of election ballots. Finally, the failure of government--from a national security standpoint--to prioritize adequate resources for conducting our elections by treating these systems as "critical infrastructure" and keeping up with hardware/software technology developments creates further vulnerabilities that must be remedied.
This effort will focus on improving the physical and cyber security of our voting machines and ballot counting processes by working to counter threats to our elections and identify viable safeguards, accounting-style (apolitical) re-count and auditing standards, and other best practices to ensure that all votes are recorded accurately by transparent and reliable voting systems.
