Voting is a fundamental right. But throughout U.S. history state legislatures and other institutions have raised barriers that make it difficult for minority communities to exercise these core civil rights. Regardless of the motive offered for the restriction, the result is the same--rights of eligible voters are infringed, communities are politically marginalized, and the will of the electorate is suppressed. Modernizing voter access and improving civic engagement will strengthen our democracy, making it more representative and responsive to the needs of our communities. 

NYDLC (@NYDLC) works with candidates, elected officials, community leaders, and civic and grassroots groups to provide voter protection training, election monitoring, rights-based civics education, and to help raise awareness about voting rights and the importance of political organizing and participation in order to empower our communities.
